The Importance of Environmental Compliance in Aluminium and Stainless Steel Fabrication

Blog | November 16th, 2016

stainless-kitchenWith the ever increasing need to reduce your carbon footprint plus the launch of environmental awareness, industries and businesses are looking for better ways to make sure that their products are Eco friendly. Additionally, companies also need to be environmentally compliant and meet today’s standards.

Aluminium Fabrication

The cutting, forming and welding of aluminium alloys can be a complex procedure when it comes to technique. Quality fabrication is dependent on the company’s knowledge of metals and their strengths. In fact, the metals being used are directly linked to the success of a design or project. As well, the right tools for fabrication are very important for environmental compliance. Today, plants are responsible for all hazardous waste. And when a company is not compliant, there can be severe penalties and fees.

The three major components of environmental compliance include treatment, transportation and disposal. Some companies opt to handle the waste themselves, while others outsource an expert for convenience and the reassurance that the waste is being managed correctly. In fact, the compliance expert will be familiar with rules and regulations, waste identification, disposal, minimization, safety training and disposal costs.

Stainless Steel Fabrication

In itself, stainless steel is a “green” product that is 100% recyclable. It does not have a coating that is highly toxic, nor does it produce a toxic run-off. During production, there can be an excess of emissions if environmental compliance equipment is not installed. But when stainless steel fabrication is in compliance, there is a significant decrease in damaging emissions. In fact, there are numerous pieces of equipment that allows a company to help improve air quality and also remain compliant with environmental regulations. Some of the equipment includes dry and wet scrubbers, low nox burners, fabric filters, over-fire air systems, electrostatic precipitators, Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCRs) and Selective Non Catalytic Reduction (SNCRs).

In addition, the grade of stainless steel will make a big difference in strength, corrosion resistance and fabrication features. Generally, the better quality grade of stainless steel, the better it is on the environment. As well, the accumulation of fabrication costs and materials is much cheaper in the long run because of the longevity.

Greener Products

As of late, many companies have opted for greener solutions. For instance, many Aluminium and stainless steel fabrication plants are using coolant management systems to decrease the amount of monthly waste. These types of systems filter tramp oils and suspended particles so that the solvent is much cleaner. As well, many plants are using coolants that are non-toxic and do not need hazardous waste disposal. To reduce excessive disposal costs and hazardous waste, products like solvents, pints, cleaners and plating chemicals are eliminated.
